Vamadeva (Sanskrit: वामदेव) is the name of the "preserver" aspect of the god
Shiva, one of five aspects of the universe he embodies.On a Shiva 5 faced lingum, it's on the right hand side. Represents the female manifestation of Shiva, the peaceful, graceful and poetic. Associated with the element of water.
Vamadeva is also the name of a
rishi, credited with most of
Mandala 4 of the
Rigveda.
Etymology
The name comes from Sanskrit
vāma = "beautiful" and
deva = "god".
As a god's name it's a
karmadharaya and means "beautiful god".
As a man's name it's probably a
bahuvrihi and means "he whose god is beautiful".
